Microbial Biotechnology was founded by Professor Ken Timmis 15 years ago, along with Environmental Microbiology. Over the years, these journals have published countless articles focused on the role microbes play in solving environmental problems. One of the most crucial areas within this realm relate to the UN Sustainable Development Goal to END HUNGER.
We are seeking to publish minireviews, opinion papers, research articles and brief reports on the exciting role that plant-microbe interactions play in enhancing plant productivity.
Interactions among microorganisms and plants are complex and involve a network of integrated physiological responses, chemical cross-talk and regulatory circuits. These interactions are the results of co-evolution that began with the appearance of plants 700 million years ago.
This special issue will focus mainly on three kinds of interactions: symbiosis, mutualism and pathogenesis. We are interested in the mechanistic basis of these interactions and the physiological aspects that boost plant growth in the laboratory, green-house and field. Relevant topics include, but are not limited to:
Symbiosis and trade-off for hosts and microbes
Molecular basis of the pathogenicity of fungi and bacteria towards plants
Biocontrol mechanisms
Systemic resistance induced by microorganisms
Microbial Biofilm formation on plant surfaces
Role of bacterial secretion systems: T3SS, T6SS in interactions with microbes and plants in the rhizosphere
