The Dong villages quietly are hidden in surrounding several mountains. As soon as we mention the Dong People, what cross our mind firstly is the Grand Song of the Dong.

但是往往很少有人知道，在侗族大歌表演中，最常出现的独特建筑又是什么呢？

However, less well known is what the unique buildings are appearing in the scene of the Grand Song of the Dong.

侗寨之妙——风雨桥

一曲悠扬的侗族大歌，会从侗寨上空悠然而上，传入每个到侗寨的游客耳里。

The melodious Grand Songs of the Dong always come from the villages of Dong, and the voice will flows into the ears of all the tourists who are playing in these villages.

欣赏侗寨之美的第一步，就是感受这蕴含着民族之美的风雨桥。

The first step to enjoy the beauty of the Dong villages is to appreciate the ethnic wind-rain bridges.

亭与桥的结合，展现着侗寨人的独特智慧。盖在亭子上的檐瓦，围在桥两边的围栏，既可遮风挡雨，又可供行人落座。

The combination of pavilions and bridges shows the unique wisdom of the Dong people. The tile eaves are covered on the pavilions, and the fences surrounds the sides of the bridge, which can not only cover the wind and rain, but also are convenient for people to take seats.

踱步桥间，农人在桥上闲聊家常，妇女在桥上执针刺绣，年轻男女在桥上联络感情，孩子们在桥上嬉戏打闹，这样的场景会带着你瞬间融入到侗寨的田园生活中去。

Walking on the bridge, you’ll see the farmers are chatting about daily life, and women are making embroideries. Young men and women are concerned with love and romance. Children are playing games. Such scenes will bring you instantly into the pastoral life of the Dong villages.

侗寨之魂——鼓楼

走过风雨桥，循着美妙的歌声往前走，独矗在侗寨中心的高大建筑就是我们的目的地。没错，这就是鼓楼，是侗族大歌最常响起的地方。

After walking through the wind-rain bridge, and following the wonderful singing to go ahead, a tall buildings in the center of the Dong village is our destination. The Drum Tower is a symbolic background for the Grand Song of the Dong.

“未建寨，先建楼”。侗寨的产生、发展，都围绕着鼓楼发生。作为侗寨的中心，不只是位置意义上的中心，也是侗族人精神和生活的中心。

“No Drum Tower, no village." The construction and development of the Dong village are based on the Drum Tower. It is not only the center of the Dong villages in location, but also the center of the spirit and life of the Dong people.

一方侗寨，一座鼓楼，侗族人会举全乡之力兴建一座鼓楼。它以杉树外形作为原型，杉树生生不息的特性也寄托着侗族人对后人的希望。

Where is a Dong village, there is a Drum Tower. The Dong people always build a Drum Tower with all their forces. The prototype of the Drum Tower is the cedar, which means endless and vital. Such morals also represent expectations of the Dong people for future generations.

飞檐上的绘画，反映了侗族的历史和生活。檐角上的各式雕塑也寓意着吉祥。

The painting on the eaves reflects the history and life of the Dong people. The sculpture on the eaves also means auspicious.

作为侗寨最重要的公共场所，鼓楼包揽了侗寨生活的多种需求，比如演唱侗族大歌这样的重要活动，在鼓楼旁进行也是理所当然。

As the most important public place in a Dong village, the Drum Tower has satisfied the various needs of daily lives. It is taken for granted to hold an important activity next to the Drum Tower, like Singing the Grand Song of the Dong.
