China's Dark Matter Particle Explorer, nicknamed "Wukong" or "Monkey King," will extend its service in space by two years, as it is still in good conditionand collecting key scientific data.

中国的暗物质粒子探测器“悟空””，将在太空再服务两年，因为它仍处于良好的工作状态，并收集关键的科学数据。

The research team operating the satellite said that Wukong's key performanceindicators have barely changedcompared with three years ago when it was launched as China's first dark matter probesatellite.

运营这颗卫星的研究团队表示，与三年前相比，作为中国第一颗暗物质探测卫星的“悟空”的关键性能指标几乎没有变化。

The satellite has reached its expected service lifeof three years, having orbitedthe earth 16,597 times at an altitudeof 500 kilometers, detecting around 5.5 billion cosmicparticles.

这颗卫星已经达到了预期的三年使用寿命，在500公里的高空环绕地球16597圈，探测到大约55亿宇宙粒子。

"We hope that Wukong's 'sharp eyes' will detect300 electronsby the end of 2019, which will provide theorists with sufficientdata to study the nature of the electrons," said chief scientist of the team.

“我们希望，到2019年底，悟空的‘慧眼’将探测到300个电子，这将为理论学家研究电子的本质提供足够的数据”该团队首席科学家张晋表示。

He said the research team is quite confident about the satellite working another two years in space.

China launched Wukong at the end of 2015 to detectthe high-energy electrons and gamma raysin space, which might be generatedin the process of annihilationor decayof dark matter.

中国于2015年底发射“悟空”探测器，探测太空中可能在暗物质消亡或衰变过程中产生的高能电子和伽马射线。

The satellite's original objectiveshave been completed with some results exceeding expectations, according to the team.

据研究小组称，卫星最初的目标已经完成，有些结果超出了预期。

In 2017, the British scientific journal Nature published the high-energy electronic data collected by Wukong in the 18 months after its launch.

2017年，英国科学杂志《自然》发表了“悟空”发射后18个月收集的高能电子数据。

Dark matter is a hypotheticalform of matter that is thought to account for around 84.5 percent of the matter in the universe and about a quarter of its total energy density. It has not been observed directly.
